Floating face up in the sea, this world really works for me are you joining in the dance? Watch it, raise it, bring it home, Stop it, chase it, claim your own, Land amongst this great nest Energy run through the trees hold together seven seas; see the glow outside Energy run through your feet relax and just breathe with me Feel the glow inside And wonder where you are in space for one moment I was standing on a peak of things that had cut so deep the view from there was beautiful energy ran through my feet I relaxed and just breathed it in letting go and moving on But its still so hard to say goodbye to those that you love, to those that you love, to those that you love, ooohhhh Never had I found a way into my soul I think I finally found a way into my soul By taking time to grow enjoy the moment

Water's Edge 03:41
Wishing for tomorrow, eyes closed today watching for the sunrise at the end of a day mind low then high, spirit breaking free body in my bed with no such disease She set me on fire, but didn't speak my name time cannot change how I see today the world turns so slow, still can never say goodbye darkness just a shadow, covering the light just sit on by the water's edge and then you'll see things can be so simple if you let them be just talking with my best friend on the way things are and surrounding myself with the love I know is in my heart Watch the sky in front of you, you'll no longer be dreaming You said stop thinking of the future, when you're here with me today Your mind is your guidance your heart will find a way there's many worlds out there, fill yours with surprise oh my little one won't you open up your eyes just sit on by the water's edge and then you'll see things can be so simple if you let them be just talking with my brother on the way things are and surrounding myself with the love I know is in my heart Watch the sky in front of you, you'll no longer be dreaming

Roadtripping 03:12
I'm gonna go roadtripping gonna pack my things, I'll soon be leaving I'm gonna bring an old suitcase, got my favorite songs and a pillow case With all that usual stuff I'll bring my new guitar so I can strum it in the car cause I just need a change I'm gonna go roadtripping gonna pack my things, I'll soon be leaving I'm gonna go somewhere, where the sun is hot and I can find some fresh air I'll light a funny thing by the campfire at night and then I'll sing at least I can see the stars The stars, finally I see the stars at least I see the stars Finally I see the stars I'm gonna leave the bay, say goodbye to the world that I know everyday these new plans are here to stay and the music just shows us the way We're gonna gonna go roadtripping gonna pack our things we'll soon be leaving, yeah Yeah we're gonna go where we can see The stars, finally I see the stars at least I see the stars Finally I see the stars oh start the fire! Then I'm gonna come back to Melbourne where I can't see the stars cause the lights keep glowing a little thing called light pollution but I think that I finally found a solution I'm gonna go roadtripping gonna pack my things I'll soon be leaving where I can see the stars

Orange Sun 05:50
Orange sun, you took a long time for me to find you, I'm sorry I denied you and orange sun I know you know that the world can turn so fast And I'm just happy I can love you Cause all my love had gone for a little while, and if your love should leave for a little while Keep searching through the dark and when the night turns to day and the Winter passes away and the roadblocks fall away in the rain that has built up inside you all this time or you can worry until you cry you can sleep until you die or you can search until you find that Orange Sun Oh woodland you have been fun, but I think its time I'm leaving thanks for showing me the way It's funny what can happen when you surround yourself with people who love and learn and grow everyday and you took a while for me to follow you and I'm sorry I would hide you Cause the night has now turned to day, and the trees have shown us the way and the roadblocks fall away and your world is full of colour now, and everything finally connects from your state of happiness and, all that love that has built up inside you all your life or you can worry until you cry, you can search until you die just as long as you find just as long as you find just as long as you find that Orange Sun Change, oh we're heading for a change in plan and your world will reveal a better face than now and the birds will sing and your soul will stand proud and the gloom of the moon will fade away with the light of this new day don'y you know that life can always begin anew

about

So after what feels like an eternity of recording these songs, I can now happily say that my band William's Cave's EP "Orange Sun" is finally complete. The last seven months of making the EP has been an awesome ride and I have learned not just a hell of a lot about music but also a lot about myself over this time. I remember very clearly strumming my guitar and writing the lyrics in my bedroom (as I often do), inspired by life on a roadtrip and in the villages I stayed at in Fiji, envisioning putting the tracks together and holding the EP in my hands. I was going for a bold, positive, and oceanic kinda vibe reflective of my experiences and headspace at the time. The Fijian families I stayed with were really the happiest and some of the most generous people I've ever met, and this combined with the natural oceanic beauty of the place really inspired a lot of the writing on the EP. So in a sense this EP captures who I was as a person about a year and a half ago. Many times during the recording of the EP I was struggling to connect with the adventurous spirit and free nature that inspired it(you know when you start to feel like you're stuck in the same rut and as you're growing up you're losing a part of your self?) but recently something has changed within me and I feel I am reconnecting with this part of my self again.
Of course, I'm not the only member of the band and so there is definitely other musical influence throughout the EP.. Patrick Brinkley, my brother by blood and a well-rounded musical legend co-wrote some parts, helped arrange much of the instrumentation and played all keys, bass, drum and backing vocal parts on the record. He also did the amazing artwork (which completely captures the vibe). And Steven Reinhardt, who recorded, mixed and produced the EP. I have learned that collaboration is one of the most important things to have in music, and will continue to strive for this in future musical endeavours. To me, collaboration shows it's about the heart of the music and not the ego.
You can purchase the EP via the link for $10, all proceeds will be going towards two of the villages I stayed at in Fiji in early 2015- Wainawaqa and Naivuvini, which were hit by Cyclone Winston earlier in the year. It may not amount to much but I would like to think it would help in some kind of way :) Thanks to Mirren Allen for helping me out with this!
Finally, I don't want to sound like I'm taking myself too seriously; I know the music isn't perfect (esp some of my vocal performances lol) but music isn't really about perfection anyway I guess.. I'm always gonna be making it and I feel we have come a long way on this one.
Much love!
Dom
